Do you need to prepare for an X-Ray?
Many routine X-Rays require little preparation. Some examinations may have specific instructions, so it is important to confirm the exact study before arriving.
What should you tell the centre?
Tell the staff about any relevant pregnancy possibility when applicable and follow the instructions given by the imaging team. If your clinician has requested a particular view or region, carry the prescription or referral.
What should you wear?
Comfortable clothing is useful. Depending on the examination, you may be asked to remove jewellery or clothing containing metal from the area being imaged.
What happens during the examination?
The technologist positions the body part being examined and asks you to remain still. Some X-Rays involve holding your breath briefly. The actual image acquisition is usually very quick.
Can you eat or drink normally?
For many routine X-Rays, normal eating and drinking are allowed. However, instructions can differ for certain examinations, so confirm what applies to your requested study.
