What is an ECG?
An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the heart’s electrical activity using electrodes placed on the skin. Clinicians may use an ECG as part of an assessment of symptoms, rhythm or other cardiac concerns.
Before an ECG
Most routine ECGs need little preparation. Wear comfortable clothing and follow the specific instructions provided by your clinician or testing centre.
What happens during an ECG?
Electrodes are placed on the skin and connected to the ECG machine. You are generally asked to remain still while the recording is taken.
